The Eljamel Inquiry will hold a public procedural hearing on Thursday 14th May 2026.

At the hearing, Senior Counsel to the Inquiry will provide an update on the Inquiry’s work and plans, in particular as a result of the postponement of the Section 1 hearings which were due to take place in April and May of this year.

Due to safety issues which continue to affect the Inquiry’s hearing suite at Waverley Gate, this will require to be a virtual hearing. Only members of the Inquiry team will be able to attend in person.

In light of those issues relating to the hearing suite, the Chair has invited the Scottish Government to be represented at the hearing and to offer such public explanation about the issues with the building as they consider appropriate.

Recognised legal representatives of core participants and the Independent Clinical Review will be invited to make submissions to the Chair about matters which are to be covered, if they wish to do so.

Information about remote participation by core participants’ and the ICR’s recognised legal representatives will be offered to them in due course.

As with previous hearings, the proceedings will be livestreamed via the Inquiry’s website and YouTube channel.
