Support for those engaged in the Independent Clinical Review
Many former patients of Mr Eljamel, or their personal representatives, are taking part in the Independent Clinical Review (ICR).
In the ICR process, they are called applicants.
The ICR is providing its own support services to applicants. These are described in more detail below.
The ICR
The Eljamel Inquiry and the Independent Clinical Review (ICR) are two separate but complementary processes. They work in conjunction with one another.
The ICR reviews the clinical care of individual patients who register - or whose personal representatives register - with it.
Patients, or their personal representatives, can provide the ICR with an applicant statement describing their experiences. This, together with their available medical records, will be carefully assessed by independent clinical experts to determine whether the care they received met appropriate standards.
Support
The ICR is providing emotional support to those engaging with their process via the Association of Clinical Psychologists UK (ACP-UK).
This is an entirely independent service which has been arranged for ICR applicants, their family members or close supporters. You can click here to go to the ICR website for more information on this service.
The ICR also have a service to support anyone who has registered with the ICR. Again, this is an entirely independent service and is provided by the Patient Advice and Support Service Scotland (PASS).
The PASS service has trauma-informed staff who are available to assist applicants to prepare their ICR applicant statements. These staff are not legally qualified, but they can help with putting the ICR applicant statement together and typing it up, if required.
