Lynn Carey's experience will be 'invaluable to Inquiry', says Lord Weir
The Eljamel Inquiry has appointed a lead solicitor.
The Chair of the Inquiry, Lord Weir, confirmed that Lynn Carey is to take on the role of Solicitor to the Inquiry with immediate effect.
Announcing the appointment, Lord Weir said: “Ms Carey’s broad experience of acting over a period of many years for large numbers of vulnerable clients, particularly in an Inquiry context, will be invaluable to the work of this Inquiry and to our trauma-informed approach.”

Ms Carey has extensive experience of public inquiry work.
This includes representing the patient and charity core participants in the Penrose Inquiry and, more recently, at the Scottish Covid-19 Inquiry.
Ms Carey has also been involved in the UK Infected Blood Inquiry as the lead solicitor for the Scottish infected and affected core participants – a group which numbers around 300 people.
Ms Carey said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the post of Solicitor to the Inquiry.
"I hope that my previous experience in representing core participants in other public Inquiries, in particular in representing infected and affected core participants in the Infected Blood Inquiry, will help to ensure that the Inquiry meets its commitment to putting patients at the centre of the Inquiry.
"I look forward to playing my part in ensuring that the Inquiry fulfils its very important Terms of Reference".
The Eljamel Inquiry was formally set up in April 2025, when its Terms of Reference were finalised by Cabinet Secretary for Health, Neil Gray.
Evidence gathering is underway as the Inquiry works towards holding hearings.
